Western Avenue – L.A. Street Names

Western Avenue, in Los Angeles. Widely considered to be the longest arterial in the city, this road was once a major thoroughfare from Downtown to the Port of LA.

Roads are crucial to local city service. From tiny alleyway and collector roads to the enormous arterials of major cities, each city has their own road network.

The most common kind of network in North America is the grid network, with large subdivisions being made by East-West and North-South roads. This network isn't the best for cars, though, and can lead to gridlock. Still, it is iconic thanks to cities like New York and Los Angeles.
