Honolulu is the only place in Hawaii with an operation passenger railway that is not exclusively used for tourists. The Skyline metro system opened in 2023 and currently consists of 13 stations, with 6 more currently under construction. The system was built to relieve traffic on Honolulu's freeway system, and as such is designed in such a way that most tourist areas do not currently have service. Fortunately, te se urban areas will soon have service, as the 6 planned station stretch under some on Honolulu's most iconic areas. When fully opened, the Skyline will allow for a one-seat ride from the airport to downtown.
