Core Olympic Sports
The core program will feature a wide range of traditional sports, including:
Aquatics (Swimming, Marathon Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming)
Athletics (Track and Field, Marathon, Race Walk)
Gymnastics (Artistic, Rhythmic, Trampoline)
Team Sports like Basketball (including 3x3), Football (Soccer), Handball, Rugby Sevens, and Volleyball (indoor and beach)
Individual Sports such as Boxing, Cycling, Fencing, Golf, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Weightlifting, and Wrestling
New & Returning Sports
Five additional sports will be part of the program to maximize local interest:
Baseball/Softball: Baseball returns for the men's tournament and softball for the women's.
Cricket: It will be featured for the first time since the 1900 Olympics, with men's and women's T20 tournaments.
Flag Football: This non-contact variant of American football will make its Olympic debut.
Lacrosse: Returning for the first time since 1908, using the sixes format.
Squash: This will be squash's Olympic debut.
Key Schedule Highlights
Opening Ceremony: July 14, 2028, co-hosted by the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium.
First Medal Events: The first medals will be awarded in the women's triathlon on July 15 along the Venice Beach coastline.
Day 1 Highlights: July 15 will feature the most women's finals ever held in a single day, including the women's 100m final in athletics.
Swimming & Athletics Swap: In a schedule change from tradition, athletics will dominate the first week (July 15-24) at the Coliseum, while swimming will take place in the second week (July 22-30) at a temporary pool in SoFi Stadium.
Paralympic Games: These will follow the Olympics, running from August 15 to August 27, 2028, and featuring 22 sports.
