Personality and Role
  • The Mythmaker: Squints (Michael) is the team’s primary source of information (and misinformation). He is the one who tells the terrifying legend of "The Beast" and its owner, Mr. Mertle, during the team's campout—ending his tale with the iconic, dramatic repetition: "For-ev-ver! For-ev-ver!".
  • Conniving and Gutsy: While he looks like a typical "nerdy" kid, Squints is actually one of the boldest members of the group. He is described as dramatic and slick, often leading the others into his elaborate schemes.
  • The "Ultimate Con": In the film’s most famous subplot, Squints fakes drowning at the local pool specifically to get mouth-to-mouth resuscitation from his long-time crush, lifeguard Wendy Peffercorn. Despite being banned from the pool "for-ev-ver," he considers the kiss a legendary victory.
Key Story Moments
  • Driving the Plot: Squints' insistence on the Beast's "man-eating" nature is what prevents the boys from simply knocking on Mr. Mertle's door to retrieve Smalls' ball, leading to their increasingly desperate recovery attempts.
  • The Babe Ruth Connection: Squints is a devoted fan of baseball history and is the first to berate Smalls for not knowing who the "Sultan of Swat" (Babe Ruth) is.
Adulthood (The Epilogue)
In the film's flash-forward, Squints achieves what seemed impossible:
  • Family: He married his childhood crush, Wendy Peffercorn.
  • Legacy: Together they had nine children and bought the local drugstore, Vincent’s Drug Store, which they renamed Squints’ Pharmacy.
