The first Animal Crossing game for the Nintendo 64 was released in 2001, and that game was subsequently ported to the Gamecube, Nintendo's next-generation console at the time. New versions of the game were released on every console since, including both handheld and home consoles. The most recent release, New Horizons, was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and has since been ported to the Switch 2.
