When Scottie Smalls (Thomas Guiry) moves to a new neighborhood, he manages to make friends with a group of kids who play baseball at the sandlot. Together they go on a series of funny and touching adventures. The boys run into trouble when Smalls borrows a ball from his stepdad that gets hit over a fence. The plot of The Sandlot follows Scotty Smalls, a new kid in town in 1962, who is taken under the wing of Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez and his baseball-loving friends at a local sandlot. The summer adventures of the boys—including a rivalry with a Little League team and encounters with a lifeguard—culminate in a major challenge: Smalls hits his stepfather's valuable, autographed Babe Ruth baseball over the fence into the yard of a legendary, fearsome dog known as "The Beast". The group's attempts to retrieve the ball lead to an epic confrontation with the dog and its owner, a former baseball player named Mr. Mertle |
