Act I: The Meeting The play opens in Verona, Italy, where an ancient feud between the Montague and Capulet families frequently breaks out into street brawls. Conflict, After a massive fight, Prince Escalus threatens death to anyone who breaks the peace again. The Ball, Romeo, a Montague pining for a girl named Rosaline, sneaks into a Capulet masquerade ball with his friends. Love at First Sight, Romeo meets Juliet, a Capulet, and they fall instantly in love, only later discovering their families are sworn enemies.

Act II: The Marriage Romeo abandons his friends and scales the wall to the Capulet orchard to find Juliet. The Balcony Scene, The two exchange vows of love and decide to marry in secret the very next day. The Plan, Romeo enlists Friar Lawrence, who agrees to marry them in hopes that the union will end the family feud. The Wedding.  With the help of Juliet’s Nurse as a messenger, the couple meets at the Friar’s cell and is wed.

Act III: The Turning Point Violence erupts on a hot day in Verona, leading to catastrophic consequences. The Duel, Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, challenges Romeo. Romeo refuses to fight his new kinsman, so his friend Mercutio fights in his place and is killed. Banishment, In a rage, Romeo kills Tybalt and is subsequently banished from Verona by the Prince. The Ultimatum, unaware of the marriage, Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet, orders her to marry Count Paris in three days or be disowned.

Act IV: The Deception Desperate to avoid marrying Paris, Juliet seeks help from Friar Lawrence. The Potion, the Friar gives Juliet a sleeping potion that will make her appear dead for 42 hours. The Fake Death, Juliet drinks the potion on the eve of her wedding. Her family finds her "lifeless" body and places her in the family tomb. The Failed Message, The Friar sends a messenger to tell Romeo of the plan, but a plague outbreak prevents the news from reaching him.

Act V: The Tragedy Hearing only that Juliet is dead, a devastated Romeo buys poison and returns to Verona to die by her side. The Tomb, Romeo encounters Paris at the tomb, kills him in a fight, and then drinks the poison and dies. The End, Juliet wakes up, finds Romeo dead, and stabs herself with his dagger. Peace, discovering the tragic bodies, the Montagues and Capulets finally agree to end their "ancient grudge".
