Pickleball is a fast-paced paddle sport that combines parts of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s easy to learn, which is why it’s super popular with all ages right now.
🏓 How It’s Played
-
Played on a small court (about the size of a badminton court).
-
You use a solid paddle (not stringed like tennis).
-
The ball is a plastic ball with holes (like a wiffle ball).
-
Can be played singles (1v1) or doubles (2v2).
📏 Basic Rules
-
The serve must be underhand.
-
The ball has to bounce once on each side after the serve before players can hit it in the air (this is called the “two-bounce rule”).
-
There’s a non-volley zone near the net called the “kitchen” — you can’t volley (hit the ball in the air) while standing in it.
-
Games are usually played to 11 points, and you must win by 2.
🎯 What’s the Goal?
Just like tennis — hit the ball over the net and try to make the other player miss or hit it out of bounds.
⚡ Why It’s So Popular
-
Easier to learn than tennis
-
Smaller court = less running
-
Very social (especially doubles)
-
Good mix of quick reflexes + strategy
