Scotty Smalls , played by Tom Guiry(who went to jail for throwing a dumbell at his neighbor) , is the main protagonist and narrator of the classic 1993 coming-of-age movie The Sandlot . Set in the summer of 1962, the story follows Scotty as an awkward, studious new kid in town who doesn't know how to play baseball until the local neighborhood prodigy, Benny Rodriguez, takes him under his wing. The film's central plot kicks off when Scotty accidentally hits a priceless baseball autographed by Babe Ruth—belonging to his stepfather—over the fence into the backyard of a legendary, giant dog known as "The Beast," forcing the sandlot crew into a series of frantic retrieval schemes. Memorably on the receiving end of the iconic pop-culture quote, "You're killing me, Smalls!" , Scotty ultimately overcomes his fears, integrates with the group, and grows up to fulfill his love for the game as a professional radio broadcaster for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
