1. Basic Overview:
- Objective: The primary goal of soccer is for one team to score more goals than the opposing team by putting the ball into the opponent’s net.
- Team Composition: Each team consists of 11 players, including one goalkeeper. The rest of the team is made up of defenders, midfielders, and forwards.
- Duration: A professional soccer match typically lasts 90 minutes, divided into two 45-minute halves, with a 15-minute halftime break. If the match is tied at the end, extra time and penalty shootouts may be used to determine the winner (in knockout-stage tournaments).
2. The Field:
- Shape: Soccer is played on a rectangular field, typically 100–110 meters long and 64–75 meters wide.
- Goal Area: At each end of the field is a goal. The goal is 7.32 meters wide and 2.44 meters tall.
- Penalty Area: The large rectangular box surrounding the goal is the penalty area, where certain fouls committed by the defending team lead to a penalty kick.
- Center Circle: At the center of the field is a circle with a 9.15-meter radius, where kick-offs occur at the beginning of each half and after a goal is scored.
3. The Ball:
- The ball used in soccer is spherical and typically made of leather or other synthetic materials. Its circumference is between 68–70 cm and weighs between 410–450 grams.
