On February 14, 2005, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim founded YouTube as an online video-sharing platform. YouTube's creators aimed to make it simple for individuals to publish and distribute videos globally. Before the introduction of YouTube, there were no viable online video-sharing platforms. Google bought the site in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion, since which it operates as one of Google's subsidiaries.
