Card Values
  • Number cards (2–10): Worth their pip value.
  • Face cards (Jack, Queen, King): Worth 10 points each.
  • Aces: Worth either 1 or 11, depending on which value helps your hand more. [1]
How the Game Works
  1. The Deal: Players place a bet and receive two face-up cards. The dealer receives one face-up card and one face-down card (called the hole card). [1]
  2. Blackjack (Natural): If your first two cards equal 21 (an Ace and a 10-value card), you have a natural blackjack, which usually pays 3:2. [1, 2]
  3. Player Actions:
    • Hit: Take another card to improve your total.
    • Stand: Keep your current hand and end your turn.
    • Double Down: Double your original bet in exchange for taking exactly one more card.
    • Split: If your first two cards have the same value, split them into two separate hands with an equal second bet.
    • Surrender: Forfeit half your bet and end your hand early (where allowed).
    • Insurance: If the dealer's face-up card is an Ace, you can place a side bet that pays 2:1 if the dealer has blackjack. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  4. Busing: If your total exceeds 21, you "bust" and immediately lose your bet. [1, 2]
  5. Dealer Rules: The dealer reveals their hole card and must hit until reaching a total of 17 or higher (casinos vary on whether the dealer hits or stands on a "soft 17" containing an Ace). [1, 2]
  6. Payouts: A standard winning hand pays 1:1, a natural blackjack pays 3:2 (or sometimes 6:5 depending on the table), and a tie results in a "push" where your bet is returned. [1, 2]
