Ending

In the end, after a long chase with the dog, they retrieved the ball, but later learned that the beast was actually a very friendly dog named Hurcules. The kids talked to the owner of the house and he told them tht he would have given them the ball if they asked. Hurcules ended up being the mascot of their team.
