Здраво and welcome to my page on Macedonia!

Macedonia is a small landlocked country located in the center of the Balkan Peninsula, surrounded by Greece, Serbia, Albania, Bulgaria, and depending on who you ask, Kosovo. The country is extremely mountainous, with the few non-mountainous areas (mostly along the Vardar, the main river of the country) holding the vast majority of the population of the country, including Skopje, Macedonia’s capital and largest city. Macedonia was part of Yugoslavia, but unlike its neighbors, Macedonia separated peacefully, and was the only country to do so. Still, the Yugoslav legacy lives on in the buildings, roads, and people in Macedonia. Macedonia’s tourism industry is still far behind its peers in Europe and even on the peninsula, (Macedonia receives 775,000 foreign tourists per year), with most tourists never leaving the city of Ohrid, the Hawaii of Macedonia. This website is designed to highlight the country as a whole, including the capital, non-tourist cities, and how the average citizen lives. Macedonia is truly a great country, and I hope more people realize it is!
