Overview
A KitKat is a popular chocolate-covered wafer bar that is recognized for its unique, multi-fingered design. The candy originated in England and was first launched in 1935 by Rowntree's as the "Chocolate Crisp". Later renamed KitKat, it was famously marketed with the slogan "Have a break, have a KitKat," which has become one of the most recognizable advertising taglines in the world. While Nestlé produces KitKats for most of the world, The Hershey Company holds the license to manufacture and sell them in the United States, which can result in differences in flavor and ingredients. KitKats are especially known for their diverse range of unusual and exotic flavors in the Japanese market, including wasabi, soy sauce, and green tea. The name KitKat has also developed a special meaning in Japan, where it is often given as a good luck gift to students before exams because the name sounds similar to a phrase meaning "you will surely win". |
