3 Musketeers: A history of the candy bar
The
3 Musketeers bar
, manufactured by Mars, Incorporated, is a candy bar consisting of a light and fluffy whipped-chocolate nougat center, covered in a thin layer of milk chocolate. The candy bar was first introduced in 1932 and is marketed as having "45% less fat than the average of the leading chocolate brands".
History of 3 Musketeers flavors
The candy bar originally featured three pieces with different flavors:
- Original flavors: The first version of the candy bar came in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors. The name "3 Musketeers" referred to this trio of candy pieces, much like the three heroes in the Alexandre Dumas novel, The Three Musketeers.
- A chocolate-only bar: During World War II, due to rising costs and sugar rationing, Mars chose to eliminate the less-popular vanilla and strawberry flavors and only produce the chocolate bar. The company kept the original name, and the chocolate-only version is still sold today.
- Limited-edition flavors: Limited-edition and seasonal flavors of 3 Musketeers have appeared over the years, including mint, hot chocolate, coconut, and birthday cake.
