Story: Metroid follows the adventures of the bounty hunter Samus Aran, who battles the Space Pirates and the Metroids. Samus was raised by the Chozo after her parents were killed by a Space Pirate raid led by Ridley. In the original Metroid game, Samus is tasked with retrieving Metroid organisms that were stolen by Space Pirates and taken to their home planet, Zebes. The Space Pirates plan to use the Metroids as biological weapons.

Gameplay: Players control Samus as she explores the planet's caverns, collecting power-ups to enhance her armor and weaponry. The game is known for its non-linear gameplay, where players can complete the game with only a fraction of the available items.

Setting: The Metroid games take place in the Galactic Federation, a far-future setting where space piracy is a problem. The Galactic Federation's interstellar police struggle to cope with the crisis, and send Samus to stop the Space Pirates.
